The EPIC Tanay Matsuri:
The Tänaybürgring

Waking up early on a weekend isn't really something we'd like to do, but on one Sunday morning, it was a whole different story. Last Sunday was the annual event of Team A, entitled this year as The Epic Tanay Matsuri: The TÄNAYBÜRGRING. Gathering car enthusiasts who not only mod cars, but also drive those steeds and push it to the limit.

This year’s matsuri was different as it was the first time that Team A has allowed the public to participate. And boy, participate they did! 50 cars showed up at the Shell gas station, which was the starting point, in Marcos highway to take part in this 300 kilometer run.

A great variety of cars and a number of motorcycles came for the event. Assortment of set-ups abound the meeting place. From old school cars to brand new ones, stock cars to heavily-modified rides, name it, Matsuri had it.

The route started from Marikina, went up through the hills of Tanay, Rizal and the mountain roads surrounding the majestic Laguna Lake, and then ending at Nuvali in Laguna, totaling more than 250 kilometers of the best driving roads the country has to offer.

A few minutes past 7:30am and the participants started to take off. The convoy taking off from shell gas station was a sight to see, as a long convoy of beautiful machinery blasted their way to driving paradise. Clearly these machines were not only made for show, but were also built to go.

The drive lasted for about 7 hours of relaxed cruising, with the quite frequent reoccurring random bursts of spirited driving; a few stopovers for snacks; restroom and cigarette breaks; and the all important photo ops. It was evident that everyone was having a good time despite the mechanical glitches some experienced.

It was already late in the afternoon that the convoy reached the end of the route at Nuvali, Laguna. It was quite a long journey, and it was apparent that everyone was already physically tired; but the spirit of camaraderie filled the atmosphere. Participants continued to spend a little bit more time hanging out and kicking it with their fellow car lovers before each went their separate ways. All were excited and looking forward to the next Matsuri.

Truly, the Epic Tanay Matsuri justifies its title as the most epic gathering of true car enthusiasts in the Philippines; bringing together great people, great cars, and great roads. What more can a car guy ask for?
